Safety is Job 1

West Electric Group has been a progressive leader in providing quality electrical installations with some of Colorado’s most prestigious general contractors. Motivation, attention to detail, and adaptability are some attributes that have driven West Electric Group towards achievement, but promoting a safe work environment for our employees has always been a high ranking component of our working standards. Our safety program includes: pre-fabrication & jobsite safety audits, safety bonuses and quarterly incentives, daily & weekly safety meetings, constant communication with all employees, networking with other safety professionals, safety training, workers compensation management, distribution of personal protective equipment, and industry specific safety related work practices.

  • From Pre-construction to Turnover:  West Electric Group employs a Safety Specialist to conduct field audits which are reviewed by all members of the management team. Management includes the Director of Safety and Safety Specialist in project information meetings prior to and throughout the duration of the construction project. These meetings allow for open communication in regards to safety to all team members.
  • Safety Bonuses / Quarterly Incentives:  Each field employee will receive $100.00 in cash, for each twelve months (calendar year) of work without an accident which requires medical treatment or time lost from work. These $100 bonuses are consecutively added each year. The company's Experience Modification Rating (EMR) must be at .99 or below to be eligible for the bonus, otherwise the bonus is suspended until the EMR is reduced below 1.0. Additionally, should an individual be injured on the job, all employees on that job also forfeit 50% of that current year's bonus. Each 90 days the entire company works without an injury, all West Electric Group employees are rewarded with a gift for their commitment to safety.
  • Weekly Administrative Controls:  Our Superintendents and Service Technicians are required to perform a weekly safety meeting. These meetings promote group discussion and participation from all employees. Two other administrative controls also used weekly are Jobsite Safety Checklists and GFCI/Temporary Power Checklists.
  • Communication:  West Electric Group emphasizes organized communication. To achieve this, West Electric Group uses newsletters, daily pre-task planners, safety action alerts, and weekly jobsite meetings.  During the course of the project at 30% and 70% labor hour usage, a project status meeting is held where safety is specifically addressed with the entire project team. Communication is one of the most important interactive tools to the success of our safety culture. Upon employment with West Electric Group, each employee is made aware of company policies and standards through a 90 minute Safety Orientation. When a jobsite safety audit is conducted, a report is generated and is distributed to the Director of Safety, President, Operations Manager, Project Manager, Field Operations Manager, Superintendent, Project Engineer, and when requested, the General Contractor. In an effort to maintain a consistent safety culture, all meetings begin with safety as the first discussion topic.  West Electric Group also uses special Safety Action Alerts to inform all employees of recent procedural changes or internal safety standards. Accident reports are forwarded to all Superintendents and Managers, which are then shared with all field employees. Safety is a crucial operational element and is a focal point of the President's monthly newsletter.
  • Industry Networking:  West Electric Group employs a Safety Specialist who researches best safety practices and procedures.   West Electric Group partnerships with the following industry premier models: VPP-Voluntary Protection Programs, VPPPA-Voluntary Protection Programs Participants Association, AGC-Association of General Contractors, ABC-Association of Builders and Contractors, ASSE-American Society of Safety Engineers, IEC Safety Committee-Independent Electrical Contractors, and CSG-Construction Safety Group of Denver. Through this networking, West Electric Group has learned that the key to a successful safety program include: management commitment, employee involvement, hazard analysis and recognition, and safety training.
  • Safety Training:  West Electric Group believes in the education of its' employees and to achieve this, offers the following training opportunities: OSHA 10-hour, OSHA 30 Hour, CPR/First AID, Fall Protection, Boom Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Forklifts, Bucket Truck, Ladders, Powder Actuated Tools, Asbestos 2 Hour Awareness, Compacting Tamper, Confined Spaces, Trenching Equipment, NFPA 70E, Confined Spaces, and Ramset Training.
  • Employee Involvement:  West Electric Group has created a Worksite Safety Captain Program. This opportunity allows for an employee, other than the Superintendent, to assist in the adherence of weekly safety meetings, jobsite inspections, and GFCI/temporary power inspections. West Electric Group has developed a Safety Committee made up of employees from within all levels of the company.  The Director of Safety, Safety Specialist, and Operations Manager positions are permanent, while the remaining members are rotational.
  • Workers' Compensation Management:  West Electric Group works closely with each employee who may become injured on the job.  Action plans are in place for First Report of Injury, Supervisor's Injury Report, Employee's Injury Report, and Accident Investigation Report. West Electric Group implements a vigorous return to work program, which offers modified duty work opportunities to any injured employee. West Electric Group believes in this philosophy for the rapid, successful, and complete recovery of the injured worker.
